Next Generation Ministries
Who We Are
NGM was conceived by Gus Schlamp in 2005 as the Holy Spirit touched his heart to be concerned for the vast throngs of children in Bolivia. While living in Bolivia he could not shake the question, “What opportunity will these children ever have to know God and His eternal salvation?” As this continued to weigh on his mind and heart he decided he could offer his time, talents and resources in whatever way the Holy Spirit opened up. After having been a successful logger in Canada, he moved to Bolivia and started a farm in 1997. He sold his farm using the proceeds to begin the work of what would become Next Generation Ministries. Gus currently resides in Abbotsford where he attends Northview Community Church. He spends several weeks of each year in Bolivia as part of his role, as President of NGM, training workers and administering the field work. As the roving representative of NGM Gus also takes time to drive around Western Canada visiting as many supporting churches and individuals as he can.
What We Do
NGM is under the direction of a board, made up of several concerned individuals from across western Canada which guides the ministry focus and specific projects. Our goals are to:
- Present the Gospel of Jesus Christ to every school, student, and teacher
- Work together with local evangelical pastors to bring this about
- Supply each student the Word of God
- Supply each teacher with a New Testament and Bible Study Booklet
- Train and encourage the helping pastors to do follow up with students and teachers
The main thrust of NGM is to present the Word of God, in a non-denominational manner, to all school age children in Bolivia. This is done through personal visits to both elementary and high schools located in urban and rural areas. Each child receives a pamphlet which covers the whole intent of the Scriptures with emphasis on who God is, man’s need, and the free provision made to man for salvation through Jesus Christ. All work is largely carried out by indigenous pastors and other folk who share NGM’s passion for the children of Bolivia. When the booklets are distributed, a 15 minute presentation of the Gospel is declared after which the children and their teachers are given the opportunity to respond. To date, approximately 7 million booklets have been distributed. Theses booklets are provided to NGM, free of charge, by World Missionary Press from the USA. Most of the country’s schools have been visited but a whole “Next Generation” of children is presently in these schools and so the work continues that all may know of God and His eternal salvation. In addition to reaching out to schools and as opportunity allows, some work is done in military camps and orphanages.
How You Can Be Involved
As a small, focused mission that depends on the locals to carry out the majority of the field work, we are not looking at this time for groups of North American workers to be in Bolivia. Above all else, the Board of NGM ask that you cover the activities and efforts of NGM in prayer. Please join with us to form an ocean of prayer warriors that would overwhelm our humble efforts with the Spirit’s presence, protection and direction. NGM is a registered charitable organization. Although NGM is donor supported we do not solicit funds, however, if the Lord leads you to participate with monetary support you can visit us at our web site (www.nextgenerationbolivia.org) and follow the links. Or you can send your donation by cheque or money order to:
