Dear Friends and Supporters of NGM:
Greetings to you all in the name of Jesus! The time has come for NGM to make a major change in leadership. Although, Peter Goertzen was a candidate for the Presidential position, I am pleased to announce, that David Klassen who has been vice President since the inception of NGM will soon be stepping in as President. David has indicated that he is fully prepared to take on the leadership of NGM, and he is certainly the most qualified person for the position at this time. Therefore I willingly pass on the baton to him, confident that the vision and mission of NGM will continue.
It all started in 2004 with the handing out of large, children’s Bible story booklets to each family in the Spanish church I attended in Santa Maria, Bolivia.
God enlarged the vision and the thought came to mind that perhaps the same could be done in other churches as well. Shortly thereafter 500 smaller booklets were ordered and quickly distributed.
Another question occurred to me, “Gus, why think of only the children in the church?” Was God suggesting to reach out to ALL the children of Bolivia? My response was, “Lord that is too big for me.” 1 Thessalonians 5:24 says, “Faithful is He who calls you and who also will do it.” God is true to His Word. After about a year of praying and trying to locate suitable materials, David Klassen connected me with World Missionary Press (WMP) who have continued to supply Scripture booklets to the present day at no cost to the Mission. Who would have believed that with such a modest beginning NGM has been able to present the gospel to millions of students and teachers to date?
As this mission continued to develop, greater organization was needed. After a season of prayer and careful consideration of available options a Board was formed and in 2009 Next Generation Ministries became an official organization with charitable status. The Board was created to provide consistent prayer support, personal and financial accountability and direction in all aspects of the work of the ministry. To date the Board of NGM has fulfilled that mandate admirably.
Thanks to the Board, critical decisions regarding the obtaining, storage and actual, physical distribution of printed materials; methods of outreach; selection and training of workers; networking with local pastors and other existing organizations, to name a few, have contributed substantially to our incredibly low cost per person coverage (fifteen to twenty cents a child).
I am thankful to God for the 13+ years of service in this ministry. Three of the original board members, David Klassen, Dave Wieler and Roger Matthews, are still in place. These have patiently worked with me and given me Godly advice along the way. As I step down as President of NGM due to health and other personal concerns I am confident that those who have served so well up to now will continue to do so into the future.
I want to take a few moments to thank the Board personally for all its hard work and commitment to maintaining the vision and mission of NGM.
David Klassen, the Vice President, introduced WMP; connected NGM with the Canadian Bible Society allowing us temporary charitable status; and spearheaded the process which brought NGM to full incorporation as a charitable organization.
Dave Wieler has been a very valuable Director, providing Godly counsel, possessing tremendous compassion for the lost and is a strong supporter of this ministry.
Roger Matthews, Secretary, provides very detailed minutes; has a wide range of knowledge in procedure and policy; and served as a missionary Pastor for 16 years.
Wendel Harder, Treasurer, came on board later and quickly proved himself to be a very capable book keeper, providing invaluable insight and advice over the years. Plus he is no stranger when it comes to computer knowledge.
Peter and Mary Goertzen are the most recent members who may be most helpful in handling vital ministry communications, having spent many years living in Bolivia and being fluent in Spanish and are familiar and comfortable with the culture.
Special thanks also go out to Michel Buitendyk, owner of Computotal Solutions (MIB Consulting Services) of Fairview, Alberta. Michel has put in countless hours over the years. Not only has he provided our Domain name and space for our web site but he has also provided consulting, data recovery, web design and other related services all at no cost to NGM. Although he has worked behind the scenes to contribute to the success of NGM, his input has been significant and much appreciated, thank you Michel.
I also want to express my gratitude to you, the supporters. This work could not have continued on as it has without so many of you becoming an active part of what God is doing in Bolivia. Many of you have given financially or have upheld this ministry in prayer and some if not most of you have done both. It is my sincere desire that you will continue your support into the exciting future of NGM. Change of leadership is always a challenging time for any ministry. As always, our primary strategy is to bring all our needs before the Lord.
On behalf of all represented in this letter, please accept this with love in Christ Jesus,
